The Bear

One rainy evening a hiker wondered upon a bear trapped in a raging river. The animal injured from the fall struggled to stay above water.
The man wanted to help the bear but was unsure how. The man looked around for anything to help the bear out of the water

“I want to help you but I’m far too weak, I don’t have the strength to pull you out of the water.” The man said.

“You are heavy enough to stand on that branch though” a voice replied.

“Who is that?” The man asked.

“If you stand on that branch over there the bear will be able to reach it” The man heard again. He turned around and saw a little orange fox. The man thought to himself that the fox had a good idea and headed towards the branch.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you” another voice yelled out.

The man stopped what he was doing and behind the fox stood a peacock peaking out of the bushes.

“Why?” the man asked

“You’re far too heavy for that branch, make the fox do it” The peacock said

“I’m not going out on any limbs” the fox quickly replied “It’s the donkey’s fault the bear is in the river to begin with.

“The donkey?” the man asked

“Yeah, the donkey is responsible for warning animals about the bridge being broken. If the donkey was doing his job, the bear wouldn’t be in the river.” The fox said.

“If the elephant hadn’t broken the bridge the bear would have been able to walk across and not try and swim across” the peacock responded

The man sat and considered both sides of the argument

“The bear ate my brother!!” a rabbit cried out. “He got what was coming to him”

“It’s raining. Can’t anyone see that? We need to get a bridge built so working bears don’t have to swim. The donkeys think they have it so great with their four legs and Ivy League education” an Alaskan white wolf barked out. “It’s time we took back what is ours. USA USA”

“Yeah what she said…bahhhh bahhh” agreed some sheep

“It’s time for a change. In a time of rain not shine; there is no time to look in the past. The future is where the clouds break and a new bridge to dry land is found. Yes we can, Yes we can” a donkey declared. For a brief moment, the rain broke and sun made its way from behind the clouds “Now is the time for saving that bear, now is the time for change”

“Yeah what he said…bahhhh bahhh” agreed some other sheep

“I’ve come to my decision. It is time to save the bear” the man said

The man turned around towards the river bank with a new sense of purpose and determination to save the struggling bear. When he looked over the ridge, he was surprised to see that the bear was gone.

“Oh no, the bear drowned” the man said

As the man turned around, he saw a dripping wet ten foot grizzly bear staring straight at him. Blood was dripping from his jaws. The man looked around to see pieces of his new found friends torn apart. At that moment the grizzly bear bit the man’s head off.

The morale of this story.
